Glue Sticks

While a great solution for smaller packaging, glue sticks can cool too quickly. With larger packaging the glue may set before operators even finish applying the glue to the entire flap or material. A lot of glue can be wasted in re-application, or worse yet, package integrity can suffer from the areas where the cold glue never made a bond.

Glue sticks also require a heat source during application, increasing the risk of burns. Workplace injuries can have a tremendous impact on a manufacturer’s bottom line.

Press Seal

Press Seal is an inexpensive box forming and sealing method that poses no risk of damaging goods during application and packaging. However, one of the significant disadvantages is the slow and messy application process. Workers must apply liquid latex to both sides of the corrugated and allow them to dry thoroughly before bonding the sides together, which can take up to 24 hours. These products are also sensitive to ambient humidity, which can increase the time it takes for liquid latex to dry and decrease the overall bond strength.

Packaging Tape

Traditional packaging tape is one of the most common ways to seal a package. It’s fast and easy to use, requiring very minimal training. The downside of using tape is that it can distract from the brand image of a nicely packaged item. Packages with tape often appear “opened” on large, high-value items and are not appealing to customers.

Furthermore, the motion required to operate traditional packaging tape dispensers can cause fatigue for workers which, over time, could lead to repetitive stress injury. Adhesive Squares™ are a more ergonomic option.
